Music and Nature

Nature in the spring, music, and great joyfulness infuse this ketubah.  I was able to keep the couple apprised of the progress of the work by sending photos as each stage of the design.  The vivid sunset colors are seen as a lighter watercolor wash behind the circle of the text.  At the very top, set against the night sky and its stars, is a small papercut box that incorporates the Hebrew names of the bride and groom -Avraham Itzhak and Yael Simona – placed against a music...

Logo – The Shalom Center

Many years ago I designed the logo for The Shalom Center.  At the time it was a simple image printed in one color ink on the organization’s publications.  It has since become a rainbow design which takes the simple lettering to a whole new level!...

Copper border

I always look forward to crafting certificates for the Pennsylvania Psychiatric Society because no two are the same and with a bit of information about the certificate recipient, I can allow my imagination to come up with something new each time. This piece features a border painted with a copper gouache (water-based opaque paint) so it shimmers, giving the entire piece a glow that sets of the most simple layout and palette. Please inquire about commemorative or honorific pieces I’d be glad to craft for your personal or organizational...

Art Glass Ark Wall

Four years after a devastating fire destroyed the Chisuk Emuna Congregation in Harrisburg, Pa, a new home opened – built from scratch on a hilltop in an established neighborhood.  I was able to work on many aspects of this ‘design-built’ project, the largest, so far, being the ark wall.  Three of us lay leaders, the rabbi, and 3 architects were charged with developing a design for the entire wall that suits a 21st century, light-filled new synagogue. What we came up with is what you see here.  With the gift of Youghiogheny and other art glass from a fellow artist, I began to imagine what to do with the color as we placed the ark against a glazed eastern wall. I learned to cut and grind glass, and ended up with over 400 small panels which I then intentionally laid out, in concert with the woodworker who fabricated the magnificent wall in three tones of wood. Here’s a look at the glass and the process of marking the templates for the construction workers to place, 18 feet above the bimah...
